At Mayan Monkey in Mijas Pueblo, we run hands-on chocolate workshops designed specifically for families with children. But it's not just chocolate making — depending on the experience, there are treasure hunts through a real chocolate factory, personalised storybooks where your child is the hero, science experiments, art activities, and enough chocolate to keep everyone happy on the drive home.
Indoor Activities for Every Age
Ages 3-5: Express Workshop (25 min, €19.95)
Short attention spans? No problem. The Express Workshop is perfectly paced for little ones — create 2 chocolate bars choosing from milk, dark, or white chocolate with 54 toppings. It includes a guided "Secrets of Chocolate" museum experience and a reusable mould to take home. Quick, sweet, and just the right length before anyone starts getting fidgety. Available every day of the week.
Ages 3-8: Dragons, Donkeys & Butterflies (from €47.95)
Our highest-rated family workshop. Children paint chocolate dragons, donkey lollipops, and butterfly bonbons using edible paints — proper artistic creation, not just sprinkling toppings. The Deluxe version (from €77.95, ~1.5 hours) adds a "Bean to Cup Journey" where you roast raw cacao beans and grind them into hot chocolate from scratch. Kids are fascinated by the transformation from brown beans to liquid chocolate.
Ages 5-10: Superhero's Chocolate Adventure (€89.95 adult / €109.95 child)
This is the one kids talk about for weeks. Your child becomes the hero of their own personalised storybook — a real printed book, handmade in our factory, starring them by name with a character that looks like them. The workshop includes science experiments (what happens when you mix cacao with different temperatures?), a treasure hunt through the chocolate factory to find hidden ingredients, and layered chocolate masterpieces they create themselves.
The treasure hunt is designed to feel like a real adventure — clues hidden around the factory, challenges to solve, and a reward at the end. It's the kind of immersive experience that turns a morning activity into a holiday highlight.
Ages 5-12: Mayas and Messy Monkeys (€99.95 adult / €119.95 child)
The ultimate family experience. Everything in one session — chocolate bars, bonbons, trufas, dipped fruits, chocolate face painting, a treasure hunt, and a personalised storybook starring your child. It's messy, creative, educational, and the children leave with chocolate on their faces and massive grins. Parents tell us it's the best activity they did on their entire holiday.
Weekend Wonder (1 hour, €24.95) — Weekends Only
Our best-value family experience runs at 10:30am on Saturdays and Sundays. A full hour of chocolate bar making combined with an interactive chocolate story, a creative art activity, and custom packaging design where children create their own box for their chocolates. At €24.95 per person, it's an absolute steal.
Why Kids Love It
It's not a passive experience. Children are doing, making, exploring, and creating from the moment they put on their apron. They're working with real chocolate (not play-dough or imitation), using real tools, and taking home something they genuinely made themselves. There's no sitting and watching — every child has their own station and their own creations.
The Treasure Hunt
Our treasure hunts run through the actual chocolate factory — past tempering machines, moulding stations, and the chocolate waterfall. Children follow clues, solve challenges, and discover how chocolate is made along the way. It's educational without feeling like school, and adventurous enough to keep even the most energetic kids engaged.
The Personalised Storybook
Available with the Superhero and Mayas & Messy Monkeys experiences, each child receives a printed storybook made in-house at the factory. The story features their name, a character customised to look like them (hair colour, skin tone, glasses), and a chocolate adventure narrative. It's a real keepsake — parents often tell us it becomes a bedtime favourite.

We're at Plaza Virgen de la Peña 15, Mijas Pueblo. Open daily 10:30am – 6:00pm (until 9pm in July/August). The village has parking at the entrance and plenty of family-friendly restaurants for lunch afterwards.
